About Parag

Parag Kumar Deka is an Indian bilingual author, translator, illustrator, and scholar based in Assam. Writing in both Assamese and English, his work explores literature, folklore, animal ethics, music, and the cultural history of Northeast India. He is particularly interested in introducing Assamese literature and intellectual traditions to a wider international readership.

His writings have appeared in newspapers, literary magazines, scholarly journals, and edited volumes in India and abroad. He is the author, translator, or editor of books in Assamese and English, ranging from literary translations and children's literature to academic scholarship.

As an illustrator and book designer, Parag develops complete visual identities for books, including cover concepts, illustrations, typography, and design.

His academic research focuses on literature, Assamese music, religion, and animal ethics. His work has been published by Palgrave Macmillan, the University of Illinois Press, National Book Trust, India, and Gauhati University Press, Orchid Publications, among others.

Parag holds an MA in English from Tezpur University and MPhil and PhD degrees in English Literature from Gauhati University. He teaches English Literature at Lakhimpur Girls' College (Autonomous), Assam, and is the founder-editor of the student magazine Ékolom (একলম).

He is currently engaged in a number of writing, translation, illustration, and research projects.
